Atopic dermatitis, also known as eczema, is a chronic skin condition that can make your skin feel dry, itchy, and sore. It can come and go, showing up as red, irritated patches that may make daily life uncomfortable and have an impact on sleep, physical comfort and self-confidence.
Flare ups of symptoms can be caused by a wide range of triggers including changes in temperature, allergens in the environment or food, stress, certain clothing or fabrics and hormonal changes. With eczema, your skin’s protective layer is a bit weaker, which makes it more susceptible to irritants.
Current treatments include topical creams and corticosteroids, but these options don’t always provide lasting relief so there is a need for more effective treatment.
Momentum is conducting a clinical research study exploring a potential new medicine designed to ease eczema symptoms by suppressing skin inflammation.
The study medicine will be given intravenously (IV) which is a way to deliver the medication directly into the bloodstream using a drip. This is a placebo controlled study so some participants will receive a non-active investigational medicine and some participants will receive the active investigational medicine.
The study will focus on understanding how effective the investigational medicine is in easing eczema symptoms. Regular assessments will be conducted to monitor eczema symptoms while on the investigational medicine.
The main ethical aspects of this study have been approved by Northern B HDEC, ETHICS REF 2024 FULL 21709.
