Shingles is a viral infection caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox. When this virus becomes active again, it travels along nerve pathways and leads to shingles, which appears as painful, fluid-filled blisters. These blisters usually form in a band or strip on one side of the face or body. The pain from shingles is often described as burning, throbbing, or stabbing, and for some people, it can last for weeks or even months after the blisters heal.
Oral antiviral medication can treat shingles, but delays in accessing it within 72 hours of symptom onset may prevent effective treatment.
Momentum Clinical Research conducts research studies that test new potential treatments that aim to help achieve better outcomes for those affected by Shingles. Register your interest now to find out if you are eligible to participate in this study and help develop potential new treatment options.
All study treatments are free of charge and participants are paid for any study related costs.
