HIV was the devasting virus that set fear across the world when it first emerged in the early 1980s. In the first 15 years since the first reported AIDS cases, HIV infection became a global pandemic, with an estimated 24 million adults globally reported to be infected with HIV. Advancements in medication and wide availability, thankfully, continues to drive down rates of infection.
Through relentless global efforts and groundbreaking research, significant progress has been made in ensuring patients living with HIV now have improved access to highly effective treatment and support. In fact, with modern medication the virus can be reduced to an undetectable viral load meaning it does not sexually transmit to others and causes fewer problems overall.
The evolution of HIV treatments has been remarkable, from the early days of limited options to now having a range of effective therapies, the progress has been astounding. Momentum’s research aims to continue on this trajectory, offering hope and improved quality of life for those living with HIV.
